He started his career at the Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Szeged, where he successfully passed his specialist examination in 2020, and then expanded his knowledge with further specialisation: in 2022 he obtained a licence in neurointerventional medicine with an „excellent pass” rating.

These experiences help him to perform precise, targeted and gentle procedures in Szeged.

Dr. Gellérd Márkos-Gergely has participated in several international training courses - in Switzerland, Belgium and the Czech Republic - where he learned the latest neurosurgical techniques.
It performs procedures that used to require open surgery, but now can be done more safely and more quickly with subtle procedures that require minimal exploration.

The minimally invasive techniques he uses are designed for less stress, shorter recovery times and more accurate results.

Research

His research focuses on better understanding the causes of spinal pain and developing targeted treatment options. He also helps doctors to determine more quickly and accurately the therapy needed by studying biomarkers that follow brain injury. Its results directly contribute to safer, more personalised care for patients.

His scientific interests focus on new treatments for spinal pain and biomarker changes following head injuries. He is involved in international clinical research, including the Therumo ROADSAVER Study and the GUERBET PICTURE TRIAL.
These aim to make the materials and procedures used in neurosurgery safer and more accurate.

He is also active in teaching: mentoring young doctors, residents and medical students at the University of Szeged.
