What is ILF Neuroeedback (Othmer method)?
ILF Neurofeedback is the most modern and effective form of treatment for nervous system dysfunction.
Most brain disorders are caused by a deviation from the optimal level of activation (arousal), poor self-regulation, i.e. the nervous system's arousal state is not properly regulated.
With training, the brain learns to regulate these neural processes, creating more optimal, stable brain functioning.
How does a training session work?
During the training, the client watches an animation, film or, in the case of children, a story of their choice. I attach electrodes to the scalp - no electrical signals or currents are passed to the brain! - The EEG device attached to these electrodes detects brain waves, which are fed back to the client by software in the form of images, sounds or vibrations (the client holds a vibrating unit in a plush toy).
These feedbacks mirror the brain's own functioning, triggering restorative processes in the nervous system, i.e. the brain starts to self-heal, creating new neural connections.
ILF neurofeedback is based on implicit learning, i.e. it lacks an active attentional component, no task needs to be performed during training, so it can be used even with young children. The best example is learning to ride a bike, it is not conscious but skill-based learning, it is based on practice, the results are permanent and never dropped.
The training series is a with consultation starts by taking an anamnesis (based on a questionnaire sent out in advance), defining the training plan and the objective to be achieved.
The consultation ends with a rehearsal, which is particularly important for children, who are often afraid of unfamiliar, new situations.
If you have any expert opinions, please bring them with you to the consultation.
Duration of consultation
In the case of a child client, the child can already participate in the training during the 60-minute consultation with the parent.
In the case of adult clients, the training takes place after the consultation, in a shorter format, for 60 minutes.
Length of a training course
40-45 minutes, a neurofeedback training series usually consists of 30 sessions (more sessions may be needed for certain conditions),
It is recommended to attend the training 2 times a week, but in some cases it can be more frequent, e.g. in preparation for an exam or a competition.
Each training session starts with a short consultation to discuss any changes in symptoms.
The training can significantly alleviate, eliminate or even prevent many symptoms of diseases and conditions resulting from malfunctioning. It is important to note, however, that neurofeedback is NOT a substitute for medical examination, consultation or therapy, and in certain conditions it can only be used as a complementary training!
ILF Neurofeedback training has no side effects.
How is it different from other neurofeedback techniques?
The Othmer method It combines 3 procedures:
- Classical frequency domain training (amplitude-type neurofeedback) (classical frequency ranges, 1 Hz-40 Hz), SCP training (slow cortical potential, <0.1 Hz)
- ILF training, a proprietary secret patented algorithm developed by the Othmer couple
- Bipolar training (providing information on the cooperation between brain regions)
For whom is ILF neurofeedback training recommended?
For anyone! For adults and children alike, to overcome health challenges or to maintain and enhance mental performance.
Main areas of application:
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD, ADHD)
- To relieve the symptoms of autism spectrum disorder, Asperger syndrome
- Headaches, migraines
- Treatment of sleep disorders, chronic fatigue
- Learning difficulties
- Dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia
- Behavioural disorders (e.g. angry outbursts)
- Mood disorders, mood swings (symptoms of PMS)
- Nervous system immaturity
- Bonding problems
- Anxiety, stress, panic
- Recovery after stroke, brain injury
- Dementia
- Addictions (addictions - alcohol, drugs, gambling)
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
- Trauma, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
Mental performance enhancement
Children:
- improving school performance,
- developing memory, creative thinking,
- increase attention and concentration,
- for exams and admissions,
- preparing for competitions.
Adults:
- improve work performance,
- develop concentration, memory and creative thinking,
- improve stress tolerance, better performance under pressure,
- more effective decision-making,
- particularly recommended for senior managers, top managers.
Artists, musicians, performers
- enhance creativity
- accelerate learning
Professional athletes
- to achieve peak performance,
- concentration, improving load capacity,
- better reaction time,
- better eye-hand coordination.
The NeuroAmp® device and Cygnet® software (and some software accessories) used for training are both European (EC Medical Class IIa) and US (FDA Medical Class II) medically certified.
Reason for exclusion:
- Aggressive child or adult
- Person with a pacemaker
- Severe psychiatric disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar personality disorder, suicidal tendencies
Alpha walking training
For adults, a type of amplitude training, a method based on an intentional learning process.
Closed-eye training, the client receives feedback through headphones based on sound signals.
The client's task is to achieve as calm and meditative a state of consciousness as possible. The achievement of the desired state (increased alpha and theta brain activity) is accompanied by a reward in the form of positive feedback.
Its aim is to achieve a deep relaxed state, calming the body and mind.
