The primary aim of the occupational health examination is to prevent work-related ill health. In addition, the occupational doctor administers the compulsory vaccinations, prescribes the necessary medical treatment and carries out the driver fitness tests and any managerial screening. Medical fitness tests are also required for work and driving licences.

All new staff should be required to undergo a medical fitness test, yet this is often not done. Even more often, the employee only sees a doctor for these mandatory examinations throughout the year. This makes the responsibility of the company doctor even greater, since only he is in a position to diagnose the latent illnesses of such workers.
